My 2yr old and I need your help to

Can't Post | Private Reply
hello, my name is Sara and I am a full time student participating in the Pre-Med program at Boise State University here in Boise Idaho. I was hoping someone could help me and my 2 1/2 yr old find a way to get in touch with her father alfonso martinez, martinez .
I am trying to fulfill a promise I made to my daughter that I would do everything I could to find a way for her to talk to her daddy. I have exhausted the information resources that I have available to me.alfonso and I have 2 kids, Kyla 2yrs and Koben 14 mo. Kyla, being the oldest of the two, took it the hardest and even now cries out for her daddy at night. I promised her that I would do all there was in my power to find a way for her to talk to him. even if it is over the phone.
My children's father is Mexican and to our shock and despair, my kids and I watched as the INS arrested "daddy" and took him away to wait for deportation to Mexico. I was aware after the birth of our first that he was illegal. I inquired into the possibility of getting a visa but with no luck. He was so frightened of getting "caught" he was really unhappy with me inquiring about it.
Soon after kyla was born she began to have seizures from an inherited gene on alfonso's side of the family.(his brother has had seizures but had not gone to the doctor in Mexico due to the lack of the required upfront payment). With kyla so sick all the time and per alfonsos request, I stopped looking for a way to get him a visa thinking that we would have time later when kyla was not spending weeks at a time in the hospital.
kyla has gone through stages of better to worse and now she seems to be right in the middle(not great, but not in the intensive care unit anymore) he was the best most loving father that I could have ever asked for in a relationship.Kyla was and still is addicted to her daddy. She talks about him and asks when he will be back on a continual basis. I don’t know what to tell her but that her father loves her very much and would be here if he could.
The last time we saw alfonso was the day his flight left. We had enough time to visit him in twin falls county jail before he was taken to the airplane. I will never forget the shrieking sounds that came from my daughter as she tried to claw through the glass window separating the visitors from the inmates. The only info that I was able to find when going through all the papers that he left behind is an old Mexico express receipt left from one of the many money transfers that he sent home to his parents in Mexico. On this receipt lists the following information....
Amparo Martinez Gonzalez ( I remember this as being the name of his mother)
Dom Con Caballerias
mpio Villa Hidalgo Zac
65-55-76:Zacatecas
I also have a tetephone number that he used to call his mother it is 011-52-492-8919-502. I have purchaced many different phone cards and spent hours trying to get through to someone at this location, but with the same five second silence then either a busy signal or a dial tone. Please can anyone offer any suggestions on how to get a hold of him. Maybe there is a telegram system that you could suggest to send a message with my info so he can get a hold of me. The kids and I had to move after he left due to the loss of his income so he is not able to reach us with the info that he has .
Any help would be greatly appreciated and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your time.

my e-mail address is kobenkyla@yahoo.com

I found Villa Hidalgo, Zacatecas on my map, it is a very small town, between Zacatecas, San Luis Potosi, and Aguacallentes. Have you tried a letter? In a small town, everybody knows everybody. You could send a couple of letters, one addressed to him and one addressed to his mother. Even if you do not have a street address they might get it. The Dom Con Caballerias is the equivalent of the street address, I believe.

Villa Hidalgo has the area code of 496. The number 65-55-76 looks like an old style phone number. I think in the new scheme of numbers it would convert to 965-55-76, for a total phone number of 011-52-496-965-55-76.

You did not say if you spoke spanish, but there are a lot of people from Zacatecas in the US. You might be able to get one of them to make some phone calls for you, they probably know how to work the system. The people from Zacatecas living in the US are really organized, they have social clubs and do economic development work for their hometowns. You might even find somebody going home who could do some legwork for you, you have a story which would melt the heart of most folks. Are there mexican businesses in Boise? Start there, go in person. You could probably find some of the Zacatecas clubs on the internet with a google search.

You could also write to the newspaper in the city of Zacatecas, they print a lot of notes from their compatriates in the US. I would use that as a last resort.

or email to municipio58@imagenzac.com.mx

On careful consideration, I would suggest that you write two letters, one addressed to him and one addressed to his mother. That might solve the problem directly, although it might take a few days for the letter to get there. I would wait two weeks from mailing the letter before contacting the Zacatecas clubs or the newspaper.

I am sure that other people will have other ideas.

Good luck and God Bless.

thank you for all the wonderful ideas. I have spoken to a couple of people in my area that are from Zac but with no luck. I will try the letters as you suggested.

As to your question about if II speek spanish,I am embarrased to say,but no. I understand very little. alfonso and I worked mainly on getting his english skills up so as to allow him a wider variety of job opportunities. After three years together he speeks english very well but can't read a lick so I will have to translate my letters to him. Any suggestions on software? I have tried google translate and alta vista's babble fish but it translates to a very funny page of garbled words in spanish.

thank you for your time,

sara and family

I suggest that if you use any automated translation system, you include the original English text as well. So many people from Zacatecas work in the US, one of the neighbors should be able to read English and translate.

A bit of information that may be helpful. When you call Mexico from the US the ring that you hear is very different. It almost sounds as if it is a busy signal. This may or may not be the case when you call...

May God Bless you in this search!

Have you contacted the Mexican Consulate in Boise? I believe there is one but have not checked. If not one can be reached in Spokane , Portland or Salt Lake. I feel sure they would be willing to make inquiries on your behalf. We have dealt with Consulates in Portland, Spokane and Albuquerque and in each place the service was prompt, considerate and helpful. Hmmm... would that our Embassy in Mexico City were a tenth as courteous or helpful.

You might want to try the program called Primer Impacto at Univision.com. This T.V. program is watched in the US and Mexico. Good luck.

Raferguson has given you some good suggestions right from the heart. I'm just going to say a few things off the wall:

1. He may have been returned to Mexico, but I don't think he will stay there. He speaks English, and he know where you are. If not, leave an easy trail.

2. Mexican's don't have much understanding of the reach of US authority, so calls in English to the Mexican homes of immigrants might feared (maybe they have other sons up north).

3. Work through any friends or relatives he had from his home area.

4. Some Catholic Charity Organizations have Immigration Specialists. You need to know if there are any immigration programs still open to keep families united.

5. He probably had a Matricular ID from the Mexican consulate that covers your area. They should have good records of his origin and my help in contacting him.

God bless you and your family.
