Moving to PV

Can't Post |
My Mexican boyfriend is moving back to Mexico next month, and has asked me to move with him for one year. We have been living in Canada for one year, and now he wants me to experience living in a small town near Puerto Vallarta.

could anyone out there give me advice on how easy (or difficult) it is to find a job...perhaps teaching English (I have a certificate) or working in an office or something. Basically, I am wondering what sorts of things I can do to facilitate my move to Mexico.

Any info would be great! Thanks.

Ronnie,

Sounds like you are about to embark on an adventure. If you don't speak Spanish, bring some books or tapes along to study after your arrival. This will prove especially important to socialize with his family and friends as well as other teachers at any school you may work in. Read as much as you can about Mexico and the area you are going to. It will help you adjust to the changes in culture if you are prepared ahead.

Get your certificate(s) legalized prior to leaving Canada, because in order to get a work permit to teach English, should you choose that, this will be a requirement. You should have no problem finding a teaching job in a small town where there may be no other native English speakers. Prepare yourself for the low pay, however. Bring money!

Best of luck!
