A good article Rolly. But "endless supply of water"? I suppose if that is referring to undrinkable salt water...yes.

This article has made the rounds.

Charles Simpson obviously had his own economic axe to grind (don't we all?). He presents some thought-provoking facts and assertions.

But neither he presented, nor have I found, any evidence to support his principal assertion that the U.S. media are sensationalizing the narco-violence in México as a means of stemming an outflow of people and money from the U.S. to México. What I have observed is that the U.S. media, driven by a relentless Wall Street drumbeat for corporate profits, seeks out violence, controversy and sensationalism wherever it can find it to market an "attention-grabbing" product to the U.S. consumer. México just makes a handy nearby source of ratings gold.

I do agree that México could potentially benefit from an increase in retirees, lifestyle refugees and medical bargain-hunters in the years to come - provided that it can get its security situation stabilized.

I do NOT agree with this statement and think that it is dangerous to suggest this to people considering road trips to México:

Quote
It is critical to understand, however that the horrific violence in Mexico is over 95% confined to the three transshipping cities for these two businesses, Juarez, Tijuana and Nogales.

Overall, I find it to be a hodge-podge of clear facts, unsupported assertions and at least one outright misleading statement. YMMV.

Ken:

I would agree that this appears to be another "fluff piece" possibly written with an agenda in mind. His comments about PV are suspect at best and he fails to address the fact that PV enjoys the highest crime rate in all of Jalisco. I would also have to question his project of 6,000, 000 Americans and Canadians moving SOB in the next 15 years. The real estate agents should be so lucky!

Rolly, after reading the article one huge question I have does the author work directly for all the developers here in Vallarta?I have lived the last 41 years for a minimum of between 3 - 6 months a year here in Vallarta and a retired residential developer, you don't have to spend a long period of time here to see that this town and the close in areas around it are famous for over building and have suffered greatly for it,and they have been doing so for the last 30+ years.

New business pop up here like weeds in your garden that is not taken care of,there are more get rich schemes built over night and die just as quickly.
The fear of what is occurring through out Mexico on the drug driven crime is doing huge damage to migration here.
I have said it before, until you take the profit out of the drug trade the problem will continue.

How "present"? The article was RE-PRINTED in July 2009 in Bandaras News. They claim it came from a website, MexInvestNow.Com, which appears to be a defunct site.

Charles Simpson has been spamming message boards for years about realestate in Mexico .... especially the Vallarta area. Hopefully he's landed a real job or has decided his IRA's and SS will be enough to see him thru
