Linda,

To the very authoritative author of the great book I purchased a while back regarding the plants of Mexico, I have one request. Please update us with the common Mexican names of these plants! When I go to the vivera I get a blank stare when I give the English or taxonomic names of the lovely plants you describe so beautifully. And it's hard to take copies of the photos everytime I get an urge to buy.

I gave your book to a local plant loving friend and she had no idea of what the common names were for most of the plants you depicted. I live in Mazatlán and, while I know we're at the outer fringes of civilization, some help would be greatly appreciated. I suspect I'm not the only one in the dark here...

Thanks,

Gordon

The general lack of Spanish common names for plants in this book was something I noted in a review a couple of years ago. I do not have a copy of the book to hand. If you can e-mail me - tonyburton@mexconnect.com - the Latin names and English names, I'll do my best to find and post the Spanish common names. Tony.

Tony!

You're a gem, but I don't want to put you out too much. And I don't have the time to go through the whole book looking at what interests me now or what might at some later point as my new garden develops.

Seems like the author should step up to bring her work into a "real life" setting. Her current article in this month's edition of MexConnect continues in the same vein, without any reference to local terminology.

Maybe she doesn't have any español...

I have found a website that I have found to be somewhat helpful.
But remember the reason scientific names are used so often is that common names can vary quite a bit.

Good Luck!
