Jeep Wrangler in Mexico

Can't Post | Private Reply
Thinking of buying an older model Mexican plated Jeep Wrangler or Liberty. I need an automatic but want something that can be towed behing a motor home with all 4 wheels down. The ones manufactured in the US meet my needs, but not sure about Mexico. Does anyone here have experience with Jeeps?

The traditional transfer case on Jeeps, Command Trac, has four positions, 2WD, 4WD High, 4WD Low and neutral. If the transfer case has a neutral position, you are set, because the transfer case is between the transmission and the wheels, so the type of transmission does not matter.

You can easily check this by attempting to put the transfer case into neutral, and then putting the transmission in drive. If the vehicle does not move, then the transfer case has a true neutral position.

I forgot to say that many of the various Jeep models have full time four wheel drive. However, I do not think that is common in the Wrangler.

My comments relate only to the traditional part time 4WD.

A friend of mine has a Wrangler with the traditional part time 4WD.

I suggest that you review the article that I referenced to help you understand the many variations of 4WD systems used by Jeep.
