Is there duty on used items brought in as gifts?

I'm looking at shipping prices and see that a lot of things I want to bring in can fit in boxes which would go in checked baggage on the airline with a passenger. Can someone bring in things to me such as used video tapes, VCR, CD player, small personal items? Will there be duty on these items?

I'm seeing, with the cost of shipping, I can pay for several people to travel round trip to GDL and if each can bring a couple of boxes worth, I'll still save a lot of $$.

Check the cost on air freight. I know several who have done it that way, including myself.

I know a Mexican woman who had to pay a $250 duty on an older used desk computer I helped her buy in the USA for $50. She bought it for her son back home.

Yes, you can bring all of these items. But be sure to check with your airline regarding any baggage limitations they may have. I had a hell of a time when I showed up at Continental with 3 bags for a flight to Mexico where they allowed only two.
