At the very least, we're not buying into the foreign obsession with the so-called "drug war"... and relating every incident to that particular trade. We're not getting the information we need (especially from tame media like Televisa and the dailies), but we other issues — equally (if not more) important — are finding their way into at least the alternative press. If you talked to free-lancers and correspondents a couple of years ago, they felt pressured to tie everything they wrote about to the drug export industry. Not that the violence went away... and Peña Neito's track record in the State of México was not good when it came to curbing violence (and, some would say, he fomented it... against dissidents especially), but perhaps we can start recognizing it for what it is... the drug exports were a symptom of social and economic problems, a natural by-product of a devastated rural economy and cut-throat economic "liberalism". http://mexfiles.net http://editorialmazatlan.com
