Are you allowed to buy stocks from within Mexico, ie. with a Mexican broker, or should you continue to invest internationally from a US based broker?

The answer to the first question is yes. The answer to your second question depends upon a number of variables, including without limitation your relationship with your broker, the nature and extent of your portfolio, and your investment objectives.

Although it will take a LOT of educating ourselves about Mexican companies and business practices we generally like to invest in local companies making growth noises. A part of that is supporting and discussing possibilities with a local broker rather than utilizing a long distance relationship with our broker. He won't know whats happening there - and it'll probably take us a long time to get enough information ...there doesn't happen to be an investment club around is there?

Although Home Depot Mexico is probably a safe bet.
