Insuring my Mexican car in the U.S.

Can't Post | Private Reply
Diana and I are planning to take a couple of weeks in November and go to Pensacola to visit the kids. Our Nissan Tsuru is registered here in Oaxaca. We have been given to understand that getting a 30-day permit to import the car will be no problem, but have no idea how to go about insuring it. We're looking for basic liability only. Any ideas?

Please copy any answer to us directly: stan@realoaxaca.com

Thanks.

There are a number of companies in Laredo and other border towns which will sell short-term policies for Mexican-registered cars visiting the U.S. And there are even companies selling the same online. Without making any endorsement, one such company can be found at http://www.segurousa.com/quecubre_eng.html.

You'll need your car's documentation (title and registration documents), your driver's license, and your migratory document. I also suggest that you have a comprabante de domicilio such as a CFE, telephone or water bill, just in case they ask.
