Import tariff on books

Can't Post | Private Reply
I received two e-mails in Spanish recently which seem to say that there is no import tariff on books coming into Mexico, effective August 20, 2003.

Does anyone have confirming information on that subject?

Books are duty free, always have been; it's not a new thing. I order books from the USA often. Takes about 3 weeks for delivery.

Takes a little longer if you have them shipped via M-bag, but the shipping cost is a whole lot less...and FREE from www.powells.com. And like Rolly said, never any duty. It's a great thing.

They may be refering to the duty on books imported for sale. I have heard that one reason books are very high in the newstands here is the duty. I also order books for my personal use and have never been charged duty.

I live near Portland, OR, home of Powell's World Of Books. Been there many times; I've said this before on this forum and may well again: Powell's is one of the truly great stores in the known universe.
