I'm moving to Mexico and I'm pulling my trailer...

I am moving from the Dallas, TX area to Ajijic, Jalisco, on the shore of Lake Chapala, and I need some information.

I Made this drive last summer, in July, so that I could scout out the crossing, the roads and the accommodations enroute. It was a piece of cake, both coming and going. I crossed the border at Laredo and I took the route through Monterey, Matehuala, etc., and it was a fine drive.

My concern is getting my trailer across the border with my household goods aboard. I will be buying a new utility trailer, 5' x 14'. It will not have a cover on it, but I will weather-proof the load. My load will not be huge, but it will be enough to necessitate the use of a trailer. I will have a Menaje de Casa and will require the use of a customs broker to get my household goods across the border. Can any of you readers recommend a good, reputable broker to accomplish this? Also, what should I expect to pay the broker and what is the routine in getting my stuff across?

Should I go to the broker early in the morning, or is their a better time of the day? Are there any special things I need to know in bringing my stuff across on my own trailer? Have any of you trailered your own goods into Mexico? Do you have any tips for me?

Thanks for your help,

Joe Williams
