That's right all,

My thread got locked, but thanks to those I asked about this for your kind replies and explanations. I've been moving recently and have been out of touch. I really enjoy the posts here and intend to stay.

Please tell me, do most of you live in Mexico - am I in the sad minority who must make do NOB? The hubby keeps telling me that in order to live in Paradise, you have to have a form of employment that is disconnected from the local economy, is this true? Say it ain't so!

Peggy,

I'M STILL LAUGHING OVER THAT ONE!!!

Sooo....anyone know where I can pick up a rich single old guy with a heart condition? The hubby didn't think that was nearly as funny as me.

If you will click on the poster's name, you will be taken to the poster's profile, where some have elected to identify their location. Some, of course, elect not to do so, and that, of course, is their option.

To visit Mexico as a tourist for a period of up to 180 days, the source and quantity of your funds is irrelevant. There are many other immigration statuses -- some of which require proof of income derived from resources abroad or investments, some which permit employment in certain categories, some of which are a dependent status, and still other categories for professionals, missionaries, and journalists. And titans of industry. Permission to work in Mexico must be granted by INAMI, and the primary criterion is that the prospective work is offering a special talent not otherwise found among Mexican workers.

Lots of underemployed Mexican professionals with masters' degrees around--I know an architect who is singing at a cafe three afternoons a week as his sole support. (Just as in the US, the underemployed are as big a problem as the unemployed.) An MBA? I don't know. That alone probably doesn't mean much, depending on the professional experience. Just a guess, however.

Based upon viewing many posts in the last few months with similiar questions as you, I suggest you consider finding a way of providing service to U.S. clients via computer and perhaps a trip on occasion. I'm a Realtor in the states (moving to Lakeside shortly) and anticipate providing an internet based service to my partners there that pays well via Mexican standards but at a fraction of my stateside income . It can be a win-win relationship. I will not have the stateside income however I will be able to live very, very comfortably in a comparative paradise. Hope this provides some useful insight for you and others.

If you are looking to fill a need, and you know what cat5e and or wireless is and can network, there is a real need for you lakeside. Bring your RJ45 crimpers, a few wireless AP bridges and perhaps a linsys broadband router or 3 and you will have customers. I'll even lend you the crimpers. We've got fixed WiFi and ADSL down here and more and more of the users are setting up LANs

I know many of you didn't understand what I wrote, and for that I am sorry, but the person who does and knows how to network will find gainful employment on the shores of Lake Chapala.
