I hope the Mexican people are watching

  | Private Reply
Today Egypt has freed themselves from oppression. Oppression comes in many forms. Mexico's oppression is the drug cartels. All freedom does not come without loss of life. There is nothing stopping the Mexican people from revolting against the cartels. It can be done if they want this freedom from oppression. México can surely do what Egypt has accomplished. I hope the Mexican people are watching.

The main problem I see with this is....if the Egyptian President mows down the people moving against him with machine guns...the rest of the world will move against him.....if the cartels do the same...they'll disappear into the woodwork. Hard to hit a moving target. I'm afraid it's apples and oranges.... I think a whole lot of people who have openly gone against the narcos....have lost their heads.....and their families.

An interesting idea but to be truly successful and long lasting, a independent motivational leader must emerge. Even after 18 days, it appears that Egypt is now danging in the wind with no clear leader, other than the masses, coming forward. Without a doubt, we are talking about very different situations and circumstances. I doubt whether any political leader in Mexico could convince the people to take such drastic steps. It would have to be a "Ghandhi-like" figure and should such a person come forward, it would probably make the political establishment very nervous.

You mean like those led by the Ghandi-quoting presidential candidate who indeed made the political establishment both here and north of the border very, very nervous and whose backers staged non-violent massive street blockages and other actions in 2006?

Well Rob65, I thought at that very same time that America`s leaders and the American people should look at how easy it is to remove the slackers from government. Your post gives me feeling you believe a revolt of the Mexican Government is in order. You are a problem Rob65, insiting revolt among the people of Mexico. You should be banned forever from this forum, which I know will never happen. As far as I am concerned, every post you make will be from an enemy of the Government of Mexico.

From the OP: "There is nothing stopping the Mexican people from revolting against the cartels." (emphasis added)

So are you suggesting, turnabout, that the cartels and the Mexican government are one and the same?

The problem with the Mexican people revolting against the drug cartels is that the narcotraficantes have no compunctions against killing anyone who gets in their way. The Egyptian military, on the other hand, does feel loyalty to the Egyptian people. Today's exciting events in Egypt shows that they also seem to share their aspirations for a better, democratic future for Egypt and its people.

PLease know that as a foreigner involving himself in Mexican politics, you can possibly be deported. Not only are you involving yourself in Mexican politics, you are suggesting insurrection. Wow. Watch your back. Hope you do not live in Mexico. T

To whom are your comments directed, T? Of course, foreigners getting actively involved in politics is against the law in Mexico, and most other countries, but what does that have to do with writing comments on a forum such as this one?

Why is it that some very new "wet-behind-the ears" forum members think that it is their place to attempt to dictate membership? Seems to be a growing trend?

OK, so your over-the-top comment was directed at robt65. What I don't understand is why you feel that his comment merits this response from you: "You should be banned forever from this forum, which I know will never happen." As I said in my previous post, political commentary on an internet forum is not akin to getting actively involved in Mexican politics. Are you worried that someone in the Mexican government follows this forum and will attempt to close it down after reading the OPs post?

You sent a great post, but you need a time out to figure out this webboard, as in no way did I send the quoted comments that you accuse me of. They were sent by someone else and you need to figure out who it was, which is clear to me. Best wishes. T.

My apologies, T. I've been spending so much time online watching the events unfold in Egypt that my mind has become a bit muddled, and I mistakenly attributed turnabout's comment to you. I meant to include this one made by you:

"PLease know that as a foreigner involving himself in Mexican politics, you can possibly be deported. Not only are you involving yourself in Mexican politics, you are suggesting insurrection. Wow. Watch your back. Hope you do not live in Mexico."

Wouldn't you agree that making comments on this forum about Mexican politics is not the same as getting actively involved in said politics?

OK., La Isla

Now that we have your mistaken identity crisis taken care of , let us broach another topic.

Please provide your source of information that foreigners can bitch, complain, but as they are not present in a political demonstration that they can e-mail and bitch about the Mexican government all they want. Please give us where you got this information, as I think you are wrong, wrong, wrong.

Please know that Twitter and Facebook were a large part of Mubarek's departure today. And it started with one post. I believe that a foreigner living in Mexico does not have to be physically present, but just can e-mail suggesting insurrection and face potential consequences. This is not the USA where everyone can march, e-mail, parade and protest, regardless of citizenship. This is Mexico and the consequences of such actions could be much different. T

Thanks for your reply. You and me both and hundreds of millions throughout the world are watching what is unfolding in Egypt. Absolutely amazing. One of the world's oldest civilizations with a population of 30 million folks, and they were able to take down a dictator of almost 30 years within three weeks, with amazingly little violence and relatively few deaths. I have just put Egypt on my bucket list. T

Not that there are similarities between Egypt and Mexico ... but neither are there similarities between posting on a message board and being an "activist" in country

turnabout,

You said: "Your post gives me feeling you believe a revolt of the Mexican Government is in order. You are a problem Rob65, insisting revolt among the people of Mexico."

Do you always take such liberties with others posts? I really do not appreciate our taking a post I have made, and turning it into your own interpretation. I don't believe for one minute, I have insinuated insurrection against the Mexican Government. Maybe head on over to your nearest Colorectol surgeon and get some help removing your head out of your ass.

Your screen name seems to fit you perfectly.
