Hologram sticker

Me again.. New question. We have a hologram sticker on our old car.. BUT , we have just sold that car and will be driving down in a new car. Do we bring the old sticker and papers with us..or do we just apply for a new sticker?

Things get so sticky at the border that we definitely want to expedite matters as best we can.

Happy New Year and Many Thanks for all your help.

When I found myself in that situation a few months ago I was unable to turn the sticker in without the car being physically present. A local attorney told me to present a bill of sale showing that I had sold the car in Texas and no longer owned it, but that it had been removed from Mexico.

I haven't gotten around to it yet but that's the best I can come up with. Some say you can get a letter from a consulate or the embassy to explain the matter and expedite the procedure.

Let's compare notes later.

You should bring the ORIGINAL bill of sale (not a copy) and all the papers that you got with the sticker. Depending on where you cross you might be OK. Nogales has a special booth for persons who are having a problem. Sort of an ombudsman. She speaks very good English and is sharp- you wont fool her, she has heard it all before. You will not be able to get another sticker unless you cancel the old one. The computer will not allow 2 vehicles and one name. She can help you get the old sticker cancelled and maybe without a fine.

Why not just get a new passport, or use your birth certificate (or whatever you didn't use last time) and start fresh? That is what I did (on advice from someone on this board). My Honda Accord had left the country last March but I didn't have the notice stating that it did. Rather than risk all sorts of assorted border horror stories I just ordered a new passport. No problems at all.

What I was told is that you are your passport number in their computer. Meaning with a new passport number you don't know up from before. I don't know that to be a fact but I did not encounter any problems with this method.
