Going home?

US Mexicans are afraid to return to Mexico. Federal official advise migrants to travel only during the day and in caravans.

This is even more morbid.
Veracruz State official exhorts police forces to respect migrants and not victimize them because many drive cars with US plates. And of course he also recommends caravans.

To add insult to injury, local inhabitants block highways in Tamaulipas, Veracruz, etc.

I crossed yesterday (first day of Pizano (sp)) at Colombia # 2. I saw no evidence of "Mexicans being afraid" to travel. Many of them on SUV's all decked out. Read the paper and on Friday alone over 450,000 crossed that border alone. Same or more expected for Saturdays crossing. At six AM the entire 5 or 6 lanes of the freeway in Laredo were backed up for mopre than 8 miles and at a standstill. More cops oput than you can imagine to try to move traffic along. Some appeared to be traveling in small caravans of two or three. From my expierence of several years crossing now, that was not out of the norm. Only one Aduana checkpoint before Monterrey and one military checkpoint after that on my way to Queretaro along the auto pista.

What did shake my boots a little, was the prison escape of over 125 prisoners from the Mexican pen! Maybe just a "Christmas Break" (pardon the pun) as they maybe thay all promised the Warden to be back after Christmas! (smiling)

Yeah, I know, returnees are everywhere, The Matamoros to Tampico highway was packed 2 days ago, as told by a recent arrival.
Seems they are totally ignoring the Mexconnect basher's admonitions.

But the INM (immigration) yesterday also jumped in with:
http://www.milenio.com/node/604196

And those nice Texans went a step further a few days ago:
http://abclocal.go.com/...local&id=7853204
the Texas Department of Public Safety put out a warning last week, urging holiday travelers to stay out of Mexico.

Will wonders never cease?
