Gentle reminder about weather

If you are new to Mexico or coming for a visit, and planning on going anywhere near one of the coasts, please be aware that hurricanes happen here. There can be strong effects from a storm 100 miles inland too.

Hurricane season lasts from 01 June to 30 November every year. Hurricanes or tropical storms don't normally just pop up. Storms build up steam for several days in advance, and the weather guys try their best to project the storm's path in advance.

Do yourself a favor and check the weather forecasts BEFORE you go. Would you prefer losing a deposit or getting stuck because you were uninformed? (I will avoid assigning the word "clueless") Think shortages in food, drinking water, cash or shelter following a major storm. Think going for days like this before you can get out. .

If there is a storm that can approach the area you're planning on going to, check the forecasts every day so you do know what's happening. Change your plans if it looks like it could get bad. Eat any deposits and avoid what some uninformed people are now going through in Acapulco.

Here is one of the best quick places to do so:

This "tormenta" over Acapulco way is news that is being covered world-wide. I saw photos of hundreds of very tired and glum tourists waiting to be evacuated by the Mexican Air Force. If you've ever lived through a natural disaster then you know that there is a serious danger to life and limb and human nature is placed under the greatest stress.

Manuel fell apart over land and has regrouped and regained it's name. Now in the Sea of Cortez probably headed for Baja

Here in La Paz, Baja California Sur, all we got was some needed rain and a nice breeze. I think rainfall was harder farther south near Los Cabos, but the worst effects of re-formed Manuel are in Sinaloa, where 8-12 inches of rainfall are predicted, possibly up to 20 inches in some areas. It made landfall as a Cat 1 hurricane and has since been downgraded to a tropical storm. Flooding will be a threat for some time, I imagine.

I saw rain on/off all the way down from Laredo yesterday the 18th, but nothing serious, I was towing a trailer at 70-75 the whole way. But I've never seen MX so lovely, it was absolutely green all the way to the border with flowing streams etc. It almost made the 700 miles pleasant - or not?
