We're in a pocket of slightly lower-priced gasoline here in Ontario, but today it is still the equivalent of about 12-13 pesos.

Comparatively gas is a real bargain here in Mexico but it's a hard pill to swallow for the Mexican people when they bump it up. When you take into consideration the low wages earned, the staggering unemployment and the distances that people need to drive it's still a big bite for those fortunate enough to even have cars. Additionally these rate increases affect everything from nuts to soup, as it impacts all transportation costs which then get passed on down to the everyday man and woman.

Also the Mexican people believe they are the owners of the gasoline and should be receiving the benefits of ownership. Technically they are correct but most don't realize how the Mexican government has mismanaged their resources and abused their confidence over the decades.

Sounds like a bargain here. I put some gas in my car back in September after a trip to Jalisco, didn't drive it at all in October though I started the engine twice and let it run a couple minutes but that hardly used any gas at all. One favorite pair of shoes is wearing out though.

Oh, around 17.5 pesos or NZ$1.85 a litre. Diesel goes for NZ$1.23/litre, about 11.6 pesos (what needs to be figured in though are road user charges for diesel owners at NZ$0.03 per kilometre, paid for in 1,000km blocks). The average age for a car is about fifteen years old, the overwhelming majority secondhand imports from Japan.
