FM2 and Car permit

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hello everyone,

I looked around the different posts and although I am pretty sure there is an answer to what I am asking, I didn't find a post that fully answered me.

So here it goes:

I live in Nayarit and currently have my FM2(Immigrante Rentista). The car I am inquiring about is a Honda Fit 2007 and it is temporally imported for a period of 6 months.

My question is, what are the most time and cost efficient ways to have my car here legally full time.

More info that might be relevant:

- I also own another car in Mexico that is allready fully imported(Mexican platted).
- The permit for the Honda Fit expires on the 24th of November.
- If possible I'd rather not have to go back to the border to legalize my car. I know there is an Customs(Aduana) office at the airport in Puerto Vallarta.

Thanks in advance for all your reply's and if you guys need more details, feel free to ask me.

You don't have to do a thing.
Your car will be legal so long as your FM2 is valid.
The expiry date on the permit is overridden by your FM2.
This is covered in Article 106 of the Aduana code. Read it here.

Something's unclear.

Are you looking to buy the Honda Fit from someone else, or did you import it?

Thanks for the super fast reply Rolly,

I red the Article 106 of the Aduana code, but just so I am certain of what it said:

I don't have to do anything, everything was done automatically when I got my FM2? No additional parers or forms to fill out...?

Thanks again.

Correct. You are fine.
Print that webpage and carry it in your car in case you run into a cop who doesn't know the law.

Rolly,

About Article 106 and your website, my insurance agent told me that if my registration is not current the fine print in the policy states that you are not legally on the road and therefore not covered.

A question, If you are driving with expired plates is the car legally on the road and still covered by your Mexican insurance policy?

My plates are expired, and I have valid insurance which I have used with no problem.
In my article on auto insurance, I specifically warned about some companies requiring current registration. Many (most?) companies do not have that requirement.

I guess I am with one of the companies that require current registration. Thanks to Vermillion County, SD for keeping me legal and Thanks to you Rolly for keeping me educated.
