Exit Stamp

Can't Post |
Hello All:

Could those of you who are U.S. citizens living in Mexico but who travel to the U.S. often tell me how important an exit stamp is on your passport? I have friends here who have multiple entry visas who say that they never bother with an exit stamp. kgs.

I know nothing about an exit stamp on a USA passport. I made many trips in and out of Mexico before I moved here and never had an exit stamp on my passport.

Since I live here now, I travel in and out on an FM3 which does get entry and exit stamps. Once I forgot to get it stamped on the way out. When I returned, nothing was said. I recall a post here a while back telling of leaving by land where the immigration agent didn't seem to know anything about stamping an FM3. On the other hand, sometimes when I fly out of my airport at Torreón, the guys make a big thing about stamping the book and giving me a receipt to turn in when I return.

My guess is that it is one of those "Welcome to Mexico" things that is sometimes ignored, but which could get you into trouble. So I try to be careful to follow the rules.

I have been coming in and out many times a year, in the past five years (by land), and I don't even have a passport with me. For my Fmt and vehicle importation I just show my driver's license and birth certificate, that' all.
