Driving vs. Flying

For a variety of reasons I am concerned about doing the 3 day drive to SMA alone this time (it's been a few years). I will only be staying a month. My main reason is to visit SMA and to do some shopping for my store while I am there. My intention is to purchase items from the mercados (arts and crafts) to sell at my little tienda (called Fiesta). I won't be large amounts of anything, just a few of each item.

I'm pretty set on driving but still considering flying. I've never been there without my car, I'm sure I would miss it but for the one month the hotels, gas, etc., really add up. My concern is how I would bring the items back without my car. Here are the main questions:

How difficult and expensive would shipping of items be?

Where can I find the most up to date information on duty/customs? I've never had to pay taxes before as I always state items are for my use but I didn't own the shop before. I seem to remember at one point that locally made crafts were tax-exempt or taxed at a lower rate but I don't know if that is true anymore.

If I ship items, how does that work with customs and taxes?

If anyone has a business or has imported small amounts of craft items back to the U.S. I would love to hear from you.

I'm concerned about the distance and driving alone - I have an illness that causes fatigue and I've been struggling with it lately so I know the drive would take some extra time and expense.

Thanks!

Laurianne

Try to enlist a companion and drive.
All generalities are suspect, including this one.
