Any idea where to find more info on this? It looks like a murder and it's hitting the press in the U.S. - it's a shame that it is CZM which has been considered a "safe" place so far. If anyone has ideas on how to find out more I'd appreciate it. Thanks! Foul play suspected in death of Royal Caribbean musician By Gene Sloan, USA TODAY A crew member from a Royal Caribbean ship was found dead over the weekend in Cozumel in an incident authorities are investigating as a possible homicide. The Associated Press reports the body of Monika Markiewicz, 32, who worked as a musician aboard Royal Caribbean's 5,400-passenger Allure of the Seas, was recovered from the ocean off the southern part of the Mexican island on Saturday. The news outlet quotes an official as saying an autopsy found Markiewicz suffered a blow to the head and died of drowning. The Associated Press quotes Royal Caribbean spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez as saying the information the company has received indicates Markiewicz "was the victim of a violent crime and did not drown accidentally." A Royal Caribbean statement sent to USA TODAY says Markiewicz, a Polish national, got off Allure of the Seas on Friday and did not return. "Tragically, we recently became aware that the crew member was a victim of a violent crime while ashore in a remote area in Cozumel," the statement says. "We extend our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our crew member." The incident comes several weeks after a string of crimes involving cruise ship passengers and crew in Mazatlan, Mexico prompted several lines to cancel calls at that port. Martinez told USA TODAY that Royal Caribbean doesn't have plans to cancel calls to Cozumel.
