Dia de Guadalupe

Can't Post |
Fireworks pierced the night air and greeted cold dawns across Mexico. What’s that all about? Today is Dia de Guadalupe, what some would say is the holiest day in Mexico, surpassing Christmas and Easter.

What’s happening where you live?

Throughout the entire day and night today, the faithful from all of the area and surrounding towns will be marching in a procession to the Cathedral in the center of Puerto Vallarta. Dressed in white, singing hymns and holding candles, these "pilgrims" have been proceeding to the cathedral for the last 11 nights. Some are dressed in traditional Indian costumes and dance in the street. Some bring baskets of food to the church as they are directed inside by the priests in small groups for a benediction and blessing. These groups represent businesses, schools, neighborhoods, small town, etc. In the street are vendors selling corn on the cob, sweets, tamales, etc. Most nights there have been musical events at the amphitheater on the bay. Tonight at midnight will be a fireworks display. This is a true expression of the faith of the Mexican people and their adoration of the Virgin. For those witnessing this event, it is a moving, emotional experience.
