Damiana...the Liquor

Can't Post | Private Reply
There's a cool bottle with what is called Damiana liquor inside. I've tried to get an answer from many Mexicanos as to what it tastes like but still, can't figure it out. Anyone out there have an opinion?

And she seems to be really good at using Google too. :)

I sometimes fail miserably, because I don't take the time to either go to advanced search or look through the many pages of potential answers

Thanks Eperanza G. but I already checked the search engines. I was more interested in someone who had tasted the liquor that is sold in a bottle that looks like a naked pregnant woman. It's not for medicinal purposes but a liquor sold at liquor stores. However, if it does have the same qualities as the medicinal Damiana the addition of oxygen to my genitals, I guess I couldn't complain. Maybe I'll just have to break down and buy a bottle for 100 pesos. My significant other likes the bottle anyway so it would serve two uses and maybe that lucky third!

I just went looking to see what 'damiana' is...some leaf that makes you want a motel de paso, as far as I can tell. Let us know what happens after you have a swig or two.

I'll do that! But my S.O. is in the states right now so I'll have to wait. I don't want to get into trouble or do something against the law of Odin (The Great Odoriferous One). Well report back in less than a month Capitana. Nos vemos pronto.

I have had Damiana and it's really quite good. I can't describe the taste though. It's not too sweet and not tart. Just really nice. It is also supposed to be an aphrodesiac. (sp)

I wish you could give me a better example of the taste. Does it taste like some kind of cough syrip? Is it more like a licorice taste? At my age, an alcoholic aphrodisiac is an oxymoron. Plain ol H2O and Levitra affects me a lot better ;-).

There used to be a wonderful French restaurant in Guadalajara and after your meal they served a complimentary glass of Damiana alongside a glass of club soda. Very unique and refreshing end to the meal.

Damiana has been given many attributes of questionable origin. The most extentive sources I have seen are at MSN.COM, enter damiana in the SEARCH section which shows about 56,000 sources of info (literally)......

Do not drink alone.... GCOUCH

Too sweet and too medicine tasting to my liking. And as maestro Fuentes Mares used to say when he had reached the venerable age of 70+, "Damiana, a good aphrodisiac? Of course! But they don't make it quite as effective nowadays."

I just read your post amigo while sipping on a little Damiana. Yes, it's sweet with an earthy herbal taste including a touch of Tuaca thrown in. As to the aphrodisiac effect, yes indeed, I understand fully why maestro Fuentes Mares says it's not as strong as it used to be! Ah! the good ol days when you could buy strong aphrodisiacs are long gone. I'm ready for my afternoon siesta despues de dos tragos derechos de Damiana. Asi es la vida. Es mas como una tableta p' durmiendo.

I know several people who make Margaritas with Damiana instead of Contreau or Triple Sec.

Somehow the idea of mixing an aphrodisiac with tequilla seems a little counter productive.

According to legend and I use both Google, MSN search and local Mexicanos, the original Margaritas were made with Liquor de Damiana. Quien Sabe. Tequila gives you the desire, Damiana gives you the powder but in reality, together they put you lying face down on the table just like any other alcoholic beverage in excess.
