Credit or Debit?

Can't Post |
I have read on a couple of sites that the immigracion agents take either credit or debit cards to pay for the temporary vehicle import permit. I want to check and see if anyone has used a debit/check card successfully.
I would hate to get down there and be told that my debit card is not good enough and I have to post a $400 bond.
Thanks,

the Columbia Solidarity Bridge near Laredo I used a debit card just to test that question. No problem.
However a friend told me that about a year ago she tried and was refused.
As with so much down here there may not be a clear answer, however I found that crossing in both directions at Columbia was very easy and that there were only a handful of people waiting to cross both times.
I'd go for it if I were you. And there's always the option of driving back to Laredo proper to try again if you don't make it across there.
UD

The rules are posted at the link shown below. To be on the safe side, you could print out a copy of the rules and take it to show the clerk at the border.

Never having driven to Mexico, but planning it in Jan.2003, I have a question.
This link apparently lets you fill out a vehicle import form. Could someone please explain what exactly this will do. Does it save certain steps when arriving at Laredo? Would someone please be kind enough to explain this.
Thx
RM

Hello,
Never used this form and the whole idea is new to me. But I have gone through the filling out the form at the border process too many times to be happy about it. Depending on the lines and the attitude of the clerk and the necessity of making a jillion copies of everything, that process can take a minimum of 10 minutes to an hour and a half.
If everything can be filled out prior to getting there and the clerk needs only to punch a "leaf number" into the computer to print out and issue the form, I'm in favor of that. But I'm slightly suspicious. As with most things in México, when it comes to the real thing, nothing seems to work. Be sure and print out the copies of the rules which specify that you can use a debit card and take that with you. Good luck. Jerezano.

Yeah, but the "Rules" also state that a personal drivers license isn't needed, and that's caused some problems also.
I'll make a test run before we travel in October. We'll see what happens and I'll post the results. BTW, we're going through Nogales.

: The rules are posted at the link shown below.
