Sulfato de cobre
http://es.wikipedia.org/...to_de_cobre_%28II%29

Mexico is a big producer of this chemical, used for water treatment, fertilizer, as a component in animal food, etc.

I know that it is a herbicide, but do not know what it is called in Espanol, nor do I know where I can find it. Thanks for your most unhelpful responses and your following of me from post to post to do nothing other than insult me. Never had a stalker before. Thanks for your attention, although it could be a tad bit more positive. Best wishes. T

One very common use is as an algicide in swimming pools or in aquaculture. Swimming pool shops sell copper sulfate by the kilo here in Merida, where just a few tablespoons of CuSO4(3-H20) Copper sulfate tri-hydrate is enough to safely keep algae away until the water is drained and replaced.

Esperanza, muchas gracias. Now I know what to ask for sulfato de cobre. Any idea what types of tiendas would handle this product? Just hope when I find it, that it does the job that I want it to do. T.

Most (probably all) boticas have sulfato de cobre. You'll find them in the yellow pages under farmacias.

Wow, that is a surprise. Will check with some tomorrow. Thought the stores that carried this product would be more geared to agriculture. T

It is a product we used to use in France to treat the vineyards and protect them from mildew. It has been outlawed there, so no good for consumption. It works on roses too as vineyards and roses are affected by the same diseases but the roses get it before the vines hence the tradition in Bordeaux to plant a rose bush at the end of every row.
When I asked the swimming pool place off the carretera for some for the pool they told me they had discontinued it and were recommending another product. No surprise there.
I would think any place seeling chemical for agricultural use would have it. Try the lady on the Libramiento or the place off main strett in Chapala or in Jocotepec.

My neighbor's gardener used it (buried in the soil) for a fungus attacking an acacia tree. Copper sulfate solution is also effective for certain equine hoof diseases, so a large animal vet, farrier, or feed store might carry it.

You're certainly correct, most uses are agricultural, but there are a number of other things it can be used for. Put down drains that are subject to root problems, it will discourage root growth without killing the tree (or whatever), made into a thin solution with some powdered cornstarch, it can be painted on walls or tile grout and will bring mildew to a screeching halt (as long as those walls aren't actually subject to running water), but just what use it is for as sold in the boticas, I haven't a clue, but being the tropics I would bet that it has something to do with fungus growth.

If you are considering this for your Rat problem, you should know this will for sure kill your dog with very, very little ingested.
