Chocolate in Mesoamerican History

Here's the link to the abstract of an interesting article that will appear in the November/December 2010 issue of Archaeology, a publication of the Archaeological Institute of America. It describes the role of chocolate, one of Mexico's most important gifts to the world, in Aztec society, including some recent research done by the Hershey Company: http://www.archaeology.org/...racts/chocolate.html .

While visiting Oaxaca recently, we stopped in one of their wonderful mercados where we observed the process of turning cacao into edible chocolate. I did a posting on the mercado and the chocolate fabrica we visited in our photojournal blog at

http://cookjmex.blogspot.com/...abulous-mercado.html

I included lots of info about both ancient chocolate and about the modern Mexico methods of making it.
