Cempasuchitl

This is the common name of Tagetes Erecta Linnaeus, the variety of marigold also known as flor de muertos. I would guess it is very common in the Morelia area. Does anyone know of a seed source? I am helping a friend plan a Day of the Dead wedding (no, not kidding) and she wants to grow her own flowers... in Texas.

I have researched this via all my usual sources, including Seed Savers Exchange, and have come up with nothing. Can anyone help?

"plan a Day of the Dead wedding"

God! A reply is tempting but I know I would be banned here for life.

The Cempasuchitles we have in Morelia -- or in the rest of Michoacan for that matter -- are just ordinary giant marigolds. Last fall we planted some from seeds of the flowers purchased from the year before, yielding up a crop of a broad range of petal shapes and colors ranging from light yellow to pumpkin, with the idea of making one part of the yard a giant ofrenda. The damn things have re-seeded themselves and taken over the garden. Having planted marigolds from regular Burpee seed (or some kind of 5 for $1 seed purchased at Walgreen's) in the past, I can guarantee you that there's no difference.
