Bringing your car on a FMT or FM3 ?

Hi,my plan was to come down to Mazatlan for the summer and see how I like it and probably move down there.I am not retired but work like a consultant all over the U.S. a month here a couple months there ... I dont plan on working again until August....My question is...if I come down now in April on a FMT with my car.....me and the car leave the end of August to go to work......Will I have to wait six months to bring my car back?Or is that only if I plan on getting another FMT?If I apply for the FM3 before I come back can I bring the car back with the FM3 even if it hasnt been out of Mexico for 6 months?Another question I have is my age... 35 ...are there any age requirements for the FM3?

The easiest way to address the question is to immediately get your fm-3 while in Mazatlan. The migracion people here are VERY helpful and easy to work with. After you have your FM-3, you won't have to worry about the permit.

Hey pear,

Here's one answer---as you'll find out rules and regulations are always, or nearly so, in flux anywhere in the world.

The law says you can get only one 6 month FMT per year. Lots of folks say they get two or three or four....

There should be no problem if you re-enter with an FM3 as long as you cancelled the sticker issued under the FMT before it expired.

RE: your age---some folks report that the Consulates serving their areas of the U.S. or Canada set minimum age requirements. This is one you'll have to check locally. If they do, just come on down on your FMT (if you can get another one within your time frame) and apply for the FM3 in Mazatlan.

Or spend the $120 or so to get an FM3 on your first visit. You'll need to prove an on-going income of around $1,000 a month (original bank statements from your U.S. or Canadian bank for the previous 3 months normally gets you approved for the first one). If you re-cross the border (going N and returning S) with an FM3 they'll insist that you buy a new car sticker---at least that was my experience---but it's only another $23-$25---no big deal.

If this is unclear e-mail me offline.

Have a good visit to one of my favorite cities.

Don
