Bringing two cars into mexico?

Can't Post | Private Reply
My wife and I will be coming to Mexico about December 1. I will be staying in the Chapala area and she will be travelling back and forth to visit her mother and family in a small town near Guzman. We are considering driving two cars down.

Both cars are registered in my name but I am worried that we may run into trouble? Any advice or recommendations?

You can each bring a vehicle in, but ONLY if each vehicle is registered in a different name. Hence, the simplest solution is to transfer the registration of one of the vehicles to your wife prior to entering Mexico. Have a great visit!

You can, as a lot have, sign the title or registration over to her on "her" car at the border. When you return to the US/Canada you can either get a replacement title or wait for your new registration.

The person bringing the car in must have the registration in their name. The question I have to ask is are you moving here full time or just going to be here for the winter? If only living here part of the year, one vehicle should be enough. Ciudad Guzman is only a 1 1/2 hour drive from Chapala.

If you are moving here full time, you may want to bring both cars, but there are other considerations you might have to think about, as I am assuming you wife was born in Mexico.
