Arriving GDL at 11:00pm. Where to stay?

Can't Post | Private Reply
I figure I should book it in advance and then take a taxi to Lakeside in the morning. Anyone know anything reasonably close to the airport where they have stayed or can recommend? No point in going out of the airport area since this is strictly a "sleep a few hours and then go" deal.

Thanks.

There is a hotel, formerly the Holiday Inn, right across from airport parking at GDL.

But flying into GDL and venturing forth to Ajijic isn't like a foray into deepest Africa. Make your reservation at wherever you plan to stay in Ajijic/Lake Chapala, advising them of your anticipated hour of arrival. When you arrive at GDL, after passing through immigration and customs, proceed to the taxi stand and ask for a taxi to transport you to Ajijic/Lake Chapala, which is all of less than a 30-minute trek.

That's what I would do to, but I would also have the hotel email/fax to the poster a detailed route for the cabbie to follow, so this way the cabbie is not searching the entire town at 12:30-1:00am for the hotel!

Ditto for both posts regarding going on to Chapala/Ajijic. Just let your hosts know of your late arrival and be sure to give your cabbie your destination/directions written in Spanish.

three ladies from Miami did the taxi-to-ajijic-late at night a couple of weeks ago and they did just fine. yes, the cabbie got lost...suggest you try and get detailed instructions (preferably in Spanish) and choose an easy-to-find hotel.

BTW, is that you in the photo? What does the sign say? "Will work for food" ???? :)

On March 11 I stayed at Casa Grande Aeroporta $100. U.S. and
walked equivalent of l/2 block to American Airlines. Didn't want to
pay that much but it was all so easy.

For some reason all planes arrive here at 11:00PM. I'm surprised they don't run into each other. Burger King in the airport closes at 10:00PM. Go figure. Watch the taxi driver pay off the cops at the airport exit. Watch the taxi driver run into the duty horse or cow on the autopista that he could not see because his headlights were not on to conserve voltage. Wear your seatbelt. Welcome to Mexico. If only part of you gets to Ajijic, we have really good hospitals in Guadalajara to repair your broken limbs.

Bubba, you forgot to mention the actual ratio of family members waiting in the terminal for the usual single passenger arriving. I believe it's 16:1?? and yet there's always parking available.
