Agriturismo

Just returned from Italy, where I stayed at an Agriturismo - very popular there. This is a working agricultural operation (in this case, olives and grapes) that offers visitor accommodations. I loved the country setting, 10 minute walk from a small town. Reasonable prices too. I have to think there must be similar accommodations available in Mexico. What are they called so I can research this?

Agriturismo is a great niche market for Mexico -- whether travelers are interested in seeing how corn is grown, chocolate mushed into mole or agaves pulped into pulque ... there's great tourism and great eating/drinking. (A trip to the town of Tequila is highly recommended!)

Another key ingredient are folk festivals -- Mushroom Fair and Night of the Radishes in Oaxaca. I have these features and more linked online Planeta's Agriculture Guide
