A request directed to some MXC Forum participants . . .

It seem to be that time again wherein I have to admonish some folks - and you know who you all are - who push the lines of respect, decency and courtesy.
Please.
Stop it!

I realize that some of you like to see what you can get away with and keep pushing the line.
Some of you just don't care to self-monitor and expect the Moderators to act as guardians and to keep drawing the line in the sand for you.
Please;
Stop it!

Some of you feel compelled to publicly admonish others who hold different views than you, or express themselves in ways that are, perhaps, not as intelligent as you think they should be.
Please;
Stop it.

The overall effect of these behaviours is to:
- discourage participation by others;
- down grade the value of the forums;
- lower and inhibit the general level of discourse;
- make the Moderators' lives more conflicted than necessary;
- contribute to a less than stellar reputation for the MXC forums which they don't deserve
- waste the good effort and quality input that many, many others have contributed through the years.
Please;
Stop it!

And finally, just to let you know that, whenever I ban some one the reduced activity is quickly made up and surpassed by others who now feel safer in their willingness to contribute.
And I'm feeling the urges rising to do some banning.

For the 99% of you to whom this message is NOT directed - and you know who you are - please continue to participate, to provide feedback when others cross the line, and to continue to make these forums realize the incredible contribution that they have made, are making and will make to peoples' decision making, appreciation and knowledge of Mexico, the country, its people and its culture.
To you I say
"Thank-you!"
Please continue.
David McL

I don't remember being issued any rules or regulations when I joined the mexconnect forum,maybe I was, a forum I have enjoyed and learned from, but your admonishment would seem to say that we should avoid any controversial subjects,heated discussions,passionate arguments and God forbid any humor with the least hint of sarcasm,some posts just scream out for a reply,sorry.If we just stick to fm3 renewals,car permits and the safest way to get from point a to b etc.won't that make for a less interesting forum?I understand your concern about personal attacks and agree with you but if you see a post that you totally disagree with shouldn't you be allowed to respond?
You are the Jefe and if you want to ban me for speaking up so be it.It's good to be the Jefe.
Regards
Chris

"....your admonishment would seem to say......"

Me thinks you may be reading something into the Jefe's comments that he didn't say. What I did see him write (no need to guess) was:

"I have to admonish some folks..... who push the lines of respect, decency and courtesy."

"Some of you feel compelled to publicly admonish others who hold different views than you, or express themselves in ways that are, perhaps, not as intelligent as you think they should be.
Please; Stop it. "

So I'm thinking that if you want to participate in "controversial subjects, heated discussions, passionate arguments and God forbid any humor", totally disagree with what has been said, want to respond and can do it within the Jefe's general guidelines from above, you'll be just fine...... whether you were issued any rules and regulations or not (they do exist by-the-way).

By the way on two occasions on further reflection I felt I might have been too critical or misunderstood in my replies and sent my apoligies via pm's, they were accepted.

In simple terms, responses which challenge/discuss/critique the content of posts are welcomed; those which attack the poster (messenger) are not.

Having been a member of Mexconnect for over seven years now, I can attest to the fact that there have been many heated arguments, etc., etc., in which the participants stayed on the right side of the civility line. I've seen plenty of humor, with and without a touch of sarcasm and I've seen people banned who were highly deserving of the honor. All in all, this is one of the sanest forums around.

You don't need to be snide, insulting or just plain mean in order to be entertaining....or funny. That just shows a lack of clever wordsmithing. If you speak as though you were face to face with others you probably won't go wrong.

If David's "rules" and recent suggestions don't do it for you, there are plenty of other forums around where yelling and stamping of feet are accepted and even encouraged. There's a home for everyone. I, for one, am comfortable here.

 This forum hosts, as regular posters, some of the arrogant and ignorant writers of all the forums on Mexico. You have to get to know them and accept them as people who have little knowledge of Mexico besides what they read in english language blogs. THAT is what makes this forum so fun! Fighting over rainfall amounts is what makes this forum priceless. Ha!

Um, don't believe I'd agree with your final comment for reasons too obvious to elucidate.
