A Matter of Perception?

For years, the mantra has always been that: "the real problems exist in the border States while the interior has fewer problems". Is this really true? According to an article in MILENIO, so far this year (2011), there have been 296 killed in Jalisco while during the same period, Nuevo Leon had experienced 308. To be fair, these figures are for all killings and are not broken out accurately for the portions attributed to organized crime or are calculations provided on a per capita basis. Then again: dead is dead!

And your caveat is important. For starters, the population of Nuevo Leon is roughly half that of Jalisco, so that gives NL double the rate of Jalisco.

But, NL is a lot closer to the gun-seller and narcotic buyer markets in the United States. It's not hard to figure out.

One thing that is clear is the increase in homicides. In the Jalisco region there has been a 170% increase when compared to the same period last year.

And Puerto Vallarta with the the most crime in Jalisco ?!?

http://www.informador.com.mx/...dencia-delictiva.htm

"De manera contraria a lo que pudiera pensarse, la mayor incidencia delictiva a nivel municipal en Jalisco no se está registrando en los municipios metropolitanos de Guadalajara, Zapopan, Tlaquepaque y Tonalá. La mayor problemática con la seguridad pública se presenta en Puerto Vallarta."

So contrary to what one might think, the most crime at the municipal level in Jalisco is not being recorded in the metropolitan municipalities of Guadalajara, Zapopan, Tlaquepaque and Tonala. The biggest problem with public security is in Puerto Vallarta.

Just read that article myself. No comments on the PV forum as yet but this will make it difficult to blame all of the bad news on the foreign media.

And Nuevo Laredo is closer still and has no where near the level of violence of Monterrey, Acapulco and any number of other places in the interior. I know you are not really being serious Rich, but NL is the epicenter of the conflict between the Zetas and the Gulf cartel. Inter-cartel fighting is what rachets up the violence.
