We are exploring importing some products from the US to Mexico. This is not immediate; we are in the research phase. The products would go to the Guadalahara and Puerta Vallerta areas.

Along with a trucking company, won't we also need an import broker?

All advice appreciated.

I am a customs broker, and I have vast experience in the importation of goods from the US to Mexico. I would need more details, like what you want to import, quantity of goods, value of goods, and country of origin. With this information, I can give you a very good idea of what to expect.

Michael:
Yes, you need a broker in the border. Let me know what you want to import to Mexico, I can give you shipping quotes too.

Thanks for your response, Travis.

We know absolutely nothing about importing to Mexico. Sorry.

We are creating a small development in San Francisco, Nayarit, and find that a lot of products we would find easily are not available here, so we are thinkng of opening a small business here to import energy efficient and conservation products. We are considering importing such products as rainwater harvesting equipment, grey water systems, solar collectors, composting toilets, home energy management, energy efficient lighting systems, security and surveillance systems, and more.

In the first phase, it would amount to $5-10K USD per month and it could grow to 10 times as much in a couple of years. Origin would be primarily US, but more and more would come from the Orient.

We need to learn more about the basics before we know whether or not it is a worthwhile business plan. We would much appreciate your help in understanding the import business.
