the State of Oaxaca...

hello Gringos. I will be traveling Oaxaca in the next week or two in search of a place to plop by ex-pat butt. Starting in O City, I would like help in finding a comfortable, yet cheap place to rent for about 3 weeks...and then on to the coast. Any rentals out there that you know of ?? or, can direct me?? I will be renting until I can find a home to buy.

Also, I am a registered nurse and will be looking for a part time job in this area...any suggestions? I know the licensing is reciprocal just need the FM3 or whatever I may need.

Thank you,

Kate Robertson

As a registered nurse you should know that an RN cannot come to the USA from another country and practice nursing if she/he does not know the language and/or has the proper licenses.
The same rules apply in Mexico.

I have been a nurse for 40 years and have been studying Spanish (and medical terms)...I am looking for a part time job...just to keep me afloat so I can live there.
I,m sorry the US is not as reciprocal with the nurses from Mexico.
I plan to move to Oaxaca in Sept. for 2-3 months and see how it fits.

I am also an RN working in a Texas border town where we receive patients with histories of medications and diagnosis from Mexico. We often have to use medical dictionaries to understand what we are dealiing with(even though I am bilingual)
About 30 years ago I worked for a Seguro Social hospital in Guadalajara as a perfusionist. However, perfusion is a specialized field working under direct supervision of the surgeon and within well-defined parameters. As a nurse you have to work more independently, know your medications and medical terms very well. Any misunderstanding could cause dire consequenses. I personally would not work in Mexico as an RN.
