special insurance foreign-licensed cars

We live in Cancun. I discovered on our Comm Am car insurance paper, at the top, Vehiculos Turistas (Foreign Licensed Vehicles Only). We have FM3.

Our agent said this was why the insurance cost so much (to us, it seems very expensive--$790 US/yr for a Nissan Sentra).

Do you have this "tourist" kind of insurance if you've imported a car? Does your insurance cost this much?

Thanks!

Bobby

If I remember correctly, that was at the top of our policy before we had our vehicles legalized. As far as the cost, it does seem a little high, but depends on the year, model and extent of coverage. Get a quote from another agent.

Check out Lewis & Lewis, a California-based agency (type those words in Google, and you'll get to their website). They are a very reputable firm with reasonable rates.
