nationalizing a US plated vehicle

We live in southern Quintana Roo near the Chetumal/Belize border. Our US plated car turns 10 years old this year and should be able to be nationalized this year. Has anyone recently been successful with nationalizing a car at the Mexico/Belize border?

You could contact the Aduana office outside Chetumal, at the border with the Free Zone of Corozal, Belize to get the word straight from the horse's mouth: In the article, What Can I Bring into Mexico: Mexican Customs Rules ,there is a Map of Aduanas del Pais with a list of all Aduana offices, hours of operations, and contact information.

Aduana will tell you that you need the services of a customs broker.

The last time I was at that border the offices of the 2 brokers in Santa Elena were closed. When you find a broker please pass along that information here. I might need one soon.

A friend of mine near Tulum Q Roo had a 1998 blazer in her husbands name. He passed away recently and she hired a broker in Chetumal to nationalize the car in her name. Cost $1800 US and took about 6 months before she got the new plate. The plate was for Tamualipas state not Q Roo. Maybe becasue they initially brought it in thru Tam.?
