Weren't you thinking about moving to Veracruz? The link for apartments that I posted there can get you listings for Oaxaca.

Yes, you can find such an apt. However, this time of year, the price of small, furnished apts. increases. Best time to hunt is mid to late March and negotiate for a long term rental. A move here, however, will involve a "capital" investment (i.e. transportation, hotel room for a few days or a week, etc.) because the really good rentals are by networking and not over the internet (although that's a place to start to get an idea). As a rule, folks who have a web page are after the higher-end tenant. Such landlords often prefer to rent for 3 to 6 months at high rates rather than have a long term tenant. Usually long term tenants, however, prefer an unfurnished apt. If you are REALLY serious about moving from LaPaz, you can do it to almost any place in Mexico. If you are wanting to come to Oaxaca just for the winter months, however, expect to pay at least $500+ Good luck!

geri, apparently you haven't been looking for apts in Oaxaca for a long time. The link(s) that I provided have listings for apts much lower than your 500+ (usd?) that you state. Of course, you don't have to live in el centrol or surrounding neighborhoods. I don't want to be picky, but your idea of a nice apartment could be quite different than the OP especially with her income. Lastly, more and cheaper apts are listed in the local newspaper and, of course, the Se Renta signs on the walls of houses.

Oh well, I was just trying to be helpful. I think I'm pretty in-tune with apt. rentals in Oaxaca, but apparently not.
I think all different points of view will help the OP. As you say, we really don't know what she's used to, but she DID mention cable TV.

Many gays in Oaxaca City. However, not much water. Nights now are down in the low 40s, even down to 38F one night, so not exactly swimming weather. There are public indoor pools which, maybe, are heated. I don't know. This question was asked recently on this forum. It's just not a swimming city, in my opinion. Brrrrr. Maybe you'd prefer the Oaxacan coast?
