I now live in Valladolid and want to change my motorcycle plates to Yucatan plates. What do I need to bring to accomplish this? I suppose I need to go to Merida, but where?
Thank you,
Francisco

One of the offices that does this is next to the old prison on Itzaes (circuito colonias), I believe that square is called parque de la paz and it is across Itzaes from the zoo. With your back to the zoo, facing the park, it is in the block to your left facing the park. There is parking in back and I would advise getting there early as the wait can be long. You will sign up with someone outside, sit in some folding chairs until you are called inside to sit some more.

I also have heard that they will do this at the driver's license place inside siglo XXl in the north on the prolongación de Montejo. I'm not sure of that however but if they do it would be a more pleasant place to go. Steve may know more and answer you soon.

We have only used the office on Calle 59, 1 block west of Calle 59 and Av. Izaes, - south across the street from the old Penitentiary. We find that if we arrive by 6:45 AM, we get a decent spot in line for the 8:00 AM office opening.

Re Circuito Colonias: If you come from Valledolid and try to follow Circuito, you will not get there. Circuito veers west just north of the Miguel Hidalgo glorieta (Dondé), and Circuito is about 10 blocks west by the time you get to the Zoo. Does that north DMV office do vehicle transfers? lo no se...

Thanks folks. What do I need to bring? I am thinking: tarjeta de circulation, compromante de dormicilio, visa, and pesos. Anything else? Will they want my Campeche plates? Thanks for your help. I would like to do it in one trip.
gracias,
Francisco

Some kind of bill of sale too, the only vehicle I've tried to get plates for was from QRoo and had once been imported and regularized. I needed the tarjeta de circulacion as well as the regularization paperwork (original only) and the bill of sale.

I'd also bring your passport for identification, they often won't accept my resident visa but require also a passport. Perhaps a copy of the ID pages of the passport and a copy of the comprobante (which needs to be recent, less than 2 months) - couldn't hurt to have more than you need but would be a drag to have to leave for copies and get back in line.

They may want the Campeche plates, I am guessing they will, but will allow you to go out and take them off. Just make sure they come off easily and you have the tools you need to do it. I saw people in the office with plates in their hands from other states although I never got to that point.

Are you positive there isn't an office for this in Valladolid? It seems that there would be, but what do I know. It's worth inquiring anyway.

Thank you Jonna. My motorcycle was born in Tabasco, so it is Mexicano. I don't know why I would need the bill of sale. I sure don't want to pay more impuestos. I paid them when I switched to Campeche plates. If it is a lot more money, can I just continue with the Campeche plates? There I am now just paying for derechos (i50 pesos) as there is no tenecia. I believe there is no tenecia in Yucatan, no? Thank you very much. I appreciate your help, Francisco

Here is a link to the SSP web page, which lists requirements for registering used vehicles in Yucatan (including those with plates from different states): http://www.yucatan.gob.mx/...er_tramite.php?id=64

Note that it looks like they DO REQUIRE the bill of sale (factura), along with the other stuff you mentioned (ID, comprobante of residence, etc.), and also the plates.

Also, although lots of people drive vehicles from other states for quite a while after moving to Yucatan, the state government has occasionally cracked down on this -- stopping vehicles with out of state plates and asking for proof of residency in that state, for example.

To avoid the long lines, it's possible to pay somebody to do the tramite for you, providing them with copies of your ID -- you might ask around Valladolid and see if there is somebody that does this type of thing (I think that if you go to the main vehicle registration office -- the one in the ex-penitentiary, near the Parque de la Paz, mentioned above -- there are people that will do the tramite for you, for a fee (a few hundred pesos).
