Does anyone know where I can get soy milk and brown rice (arroz integral, I think) in Oaxaca?
and is there an organic tiangus here?

I am not in Oaxaca, but I have been to el Mercado Pochote, which has organic products. Google it for more info. I understand that it has moved to Colonia Reforma, north of Calzada Niños Héroes.

As to soy milk, I'd look in Wal Mart. If Wal Mart might be oblectionable for whatever reason, I'd walk around Centro, and ask in likely places for a "tienda naturista".

Cynthia, I asked a long time Oaxaca resident about this, and she told me that there is no Wal Mart in Oaxaca. My mistake.

However, Soriana and just about every major supermarket carries soy milk. I suppose brown rice, also.

no on brown rice...but I found a natural foods tienda that carries it.. if the large stores have, soy, I didn't see it... again, another small tienda had soy---UNSWEETENED---a miracle in Mexico, it seems...
regarding Walmart.... actually it is here.... Aurrerra Bodega... or a similar name.. I went to the one in San Miguel... I think there are 2 in Oaxaca but haven't been yet.....
now on to finding hairball gel for my 2 cats.... will I really have to have it fed-exed from the US? the cats are shedding like mad and no matter how much I brush them, they are throwing up hair... the gel is IMPORTANT....

Concerning the Hair ball gel for your cats.....

You should be able to find it at a local vet

thanks, casa... I struck out this morning but will keep trying... would simply call but there's a cell phone saga going on, too...you don't want to know... ;-)
so I have to search in person until I get the phone issue fixed...
It is a lovely experience getting to know the city streets, however...I do love walking around.... I'm most happy to be here....

However, Soriana and just about every major supermarket carries soy milk. I don't know about the brown rice.

Hairball gel? I don't know about pet stuff. Surely there are pet supply shops or veterinarias in Oax.

There is usually a group of expats hanging around the Oaxaca Lending Library, Pino Suarez #519, near Parque Llano. Hours M-F 10 - 2 and 4 -7.
Often there's a greeter posted there to answer questions of newcomers.
