Weather from H. Emily in Cancun area?

Can't Post | Private Reply
Has it started raining in Cancun? Needless to say...we here in Gulf coast of Yucatan are extremely interested in direction of Emily. El Diario de Yucatan's latest report is that Emily will make landfall around Playa del Carmen and exit near Telchac Puerto. I hope anyone who still has electricity or batt power will post as Emily moves along.

Sunny and hot here in Cancun. Emily is still "far" away entering maybe Monday but further south. Looks like it will miss all the islands to the east of us. I expect little if any problems here. It does seem like Yucatan may get the worst of it. The latest sites show it coming close to Merida. It is a category 4 again so should pack a wallop. Of course it will lose force when it hits land--or at least that's the theory. Good luck to all.

Thanks, Jim. Yes, Mérida seems to be right in the path as we are in Celestún. Is interesting that the computer models have Em going even more South. aaarg. Have no choice but to wait and see..

We in Florida know the drill: watch, wait, hope, pray. Do we believe the forecast? Do we leave? Do we stay?
Our thoughts are with you as Emily approaches. Best of luck. Let us know how you fare.

Good luck to you Sherrill and Jim. I'm watching this one with a lot of anxiety as our place is about 30 miles south of Playa in Akumal and appears to be in line for a direct hit.

We've talked to friends there and they are as ready as one can get. Most people have evacuated but 2 of our friends are determined to ride it out.

All of the stuff that can be moved in our condo is locked in closets and the large sliding glass windows facing the water are open as well as windows at the back. Implosion from pressure changes would blow them out anyway so the theory is to just let the wind and the water run through unimpeded.

There is a part of me that wishes I were there. Stay safe all of you and let us know when you can how you are faring.

I have added Akumal and Celestun to my special program (www.trackingtheeye.com) and will keep an eye out. Be safe!

Thank you to all for your thoughts and good wishes. We just keep working; staying busy. Latest report is landfall in Tulum around 10pm and exit in Chuburna Puerta slightly North of Progreso.

My thoughts are with those of you in the path of Emily. Try to stay dry and safe. I was reading the news story this morning of how a large evacuation operation is underway.
