Trying to find someone

Hola

My friend and I have recently returned from a trip to Bahia Principe Akumal and had a FANTASTIC time!! We met some of the locals that work there and became friends....however, upon leaving we forgot to exchange #'s/addresses, sadly, we are not sure how to reach them. We have called the resort many times only to end up to an endless ringing telephone or when they do answer they usually transfer us to another endless ringing telephone. I was told we were not able to mail letters as they don't provide the service of delivering them.

Would it be worthwhile to post their names and where they can reach us on this forum? OR does anyone have other suggestions of how to contact them to exchange addresses?

Thanks for any suggestions!

I doubt if posting their names here would help. If the hotel won't help then I don't see any other way to contact them--just keep trying the hotel--preferably someone who speaks Spanish making the call.

Thanks so much for the replies. Unfortunately I don't know any local Spanish speaking people... :( My friend and I are starting Spanish classes this eve, but I am sure it will take us awhile to be able to speak well enough...LOL

I have gone to www.locogringo.com and posted a message there too.
Once again, thanks for the prompt replies :)

I would be careful about seeking employees of the hotel through the hotel itself. My wife worked in wine sales with top level management employees at luxury beach hotels for many years and she tells me most have a strict policy forbidding employees from fraternizing with guests. In fact, they could be summarily fired for even being on premise when not on duty. I don´t want to discourage you but inquiries through the hotel chain of command may get your friends into trouble. I think your only hope is to reach your friends eventually by telephone as this is a major resort change. Be careful, however, that your telephone call is not miscontrued as personal.

Hotel managements think this way because they have had nothing but problems with guests and employees developing personal relationships.

Good luck to you.

Does this mean that the friends you are trying to reach are not local? ie, are they ex-pats? I may have read this wrong.

I live much of the year just a short distance from the Bahia Principe but unfortunately, I'm not there now. I can suggest a couple variations on how to find them based on whether they are locals or ex-pats.

For instance, do you know where they live? Cheymuyil or Akumal? Either of those places are small towns and finding someone who knows them should be fairly simple if they are local. If they are ex-pats that is also a small community but you would ask in different places.

Let me know and I will try to help.

ps. If this is a romantic friendship there may be other complications you haven't considered. The chance that a local man over the age of 18 is unmarried is pretty slim. It may be that no one will assist in contacting him because they know of other problems that could cause. Having affairs with visiting gringas is considered normal for married men but having them contact you in your home town where your wife lives is poor form. I may be off base here, just saying.

It sounds as if whoever answers the phone is used to the drill...plus they all know each other's families when working together. I am actually thinking of writing a (tongue-in-cheek or otherwise!) guide-book. After living in a tourist resort for several years, I have pretty much seen it all. I think the scariest thing for some of the tourist workers is if all the friendships they formed this season all show up at the same time next season. There is hardly time for working when that happens. :-)
