Trees in zocalo of Oaxaca

You ex-pats who congregate every day at an outdoor table in Oaxaca, take a look across the street and tell me what kind of trees those are that provide that magical canopy.

While I am not a denizen of the Oaxaca Zocalo although I have graced the plaza's beer joints when in that city, according to Stan Gotlieb (who should know), they are Indian Laurel trees.

I pass this on for free so I can plug Oaxaca's best restaurant by far, Casa Oaxaca. I have no interest in that organization beyond a desire to see it succeed so I can return there whenever I return to Oaxaca which will probably be many times.
Other restaurant fare in and around the zocalo is disappointing for the most part. That, of course, is a personal opinion.

To clarify, there are actually now 2 Casa Oaxaca restaurants. One is in the hotel of the same name and the other is in the Galleria Quetzalli which is across from the Santo Domingo church (1 block past 5 de Mayo going kind of Southeast). Both are owned by the same people and both really are very good and worth seeking out. This is well excecuted, contemporary Mexican food. Well done and well served. I ate at the newer location in Galleria Quetzalli in late October and had an excellent meal. Ambience is minimalistic and sleek. Prices are moderate by US standards, expensive by Mexican ones. Menu is entirely a la carte.

The newer location was still not open on our last trip there although we were aware that it was in the process of opening. Now we have two places, under the same excellent management, in which to eat.
