Tortilla Love

I think about tortillas far more than is healthy. Which is why I felt the old anticipatory thrill when my husband quoted a section of Charles C. Mann's 1492 to me last night, discussing a Oaxaca city tortilleria called Itanoni, operated by Ramirez Leyva. Leyva operates his shop with the intention of highlighting Oaxaca and southern Mexico's maize biodiversity. His tortillas incorporate some of the hundreds of varieties of maize.

There, on page 214, is an enticing picture of the storefront. However, the only location informaton is that it is situated in a "middle-class neighborhood". Anyone have a first-hand account of the place?

I'm pretty sure this is the one in Colonial Reforma, about 5 or 6 blocks north of the highway to Mexico City (Pan American highway). I think it's next to (or near) Restaurant El Che. Among others, they feature blue tortillas. You can stand on the sidewalk and watch them make them. Easy to get to by bus.
