Tooling around Puerto Escondido

I realize Puerto Escondido is a small town, but how do people get around if they don't have a car? I'm planning on attending Spanish school in summer 2006. Looking at a map, I see that the small house I am thinking of renting is near Zicatela Beach, near Calle Las Brisas off hwy 200, and the school I'm attending is on 1A Norte. It looks to be about a 2 mile hike, mostly along Hwy 200. Now, I can do the 2 mile hike, but I don't want to become roadkill.

So are there combis/ buses that ply Hwy 200? I could find another place to rent, but I got a good deal on the one I have now. Plus I like being near the beach.

Suggestions?

Do you have a good map/book that you recommend using?

I went to the map at this website (from the Spanish school where I'll be studying): http://www.becasurf.com/index1.html. It's not very detailed. There are highly detailed maps elsewhere. Look on MexicoConnect for starters..

I am using the Rough Guide to the Pacific Coast of Mexico as a reference book. It's ok, and has some pretty good maps.
