The Jewel in the Cesspool

Chiapas is a disturbing place of extraordinary beauty enhanced by its unsettling characteristics. Places such as the ancient Jovel Valley town of San Cristobal de Las Casas sit serenely in the midst of desperately poor surrounding hillside favellas inhabited by the disenfranchised and there is no solution to this economic disparity in the medium term but things are done to diffuse insurrectionest thought and those things work which is good thing for property owners such as we but let us all hope that things do not spiral downward economically for the sake of "social stability" if you get my drift.

Life is not as simple as it seems.

I have a problem Zorba; I suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder and fear that if I employ the finality of a period, I will lose my train of thought so I minimize the use of punctuation marks indicating the utility of a pause in various degrees in the thought process because once I have signaled the efficacy of a pause at any time during the narrative I might head off into some tangent unrelated to the point I was about to make in my concluding remarks and never recapture that moment when a seemingly endless ramble becomes a cogent argument. Excuse me but what was the subject of our discourse?

OK, Zorba but just in case I cannot find 50 bucks, will you accept 72 virgins in lieu?

Hound Dog's writing style reminds me of a chapter in Gabriel García Marquez´s classic One Hundred Years of Solitude, which consisted of one amazing sentence! Of course, these sorts of things go over better in Spanish than in English.

Funny you should say that. I am in the Middle East at the moment. Where can I pick them up? They're all women I hope.

Ya, hence my reference to Joyce's Ulysses which has an entire final chapter without one period. Let's leave the poor Hound Dog alone though. He doesn't seem to be the type that should be tied down by prescriptive concerns. Better no periods than no thought.
