There was this great French movie Les Ripoux starring the marvelous Philippe Noiret which took place in Paris and Noiret was a seasoned and corrupt Paris police inspector who had recently been assigned a new partner who was a fresh and naive recruit who, after only a few days on the job, apprehended a purse snatcher in the act in the streets of Paris and brought both the purse snatcher and his woman victim into the pricinct station proudly announcing his conquest when Noiret infomed him that the new police commissioner had just announced his crackdown on crime which would certainly result in a decrease in the incidents of criminal activities and Noiret turned to the purse snatcher and the woman victim and thanked him for returning this woman´s purse to its rightful owner after she inadvertently dropped said purse in the street and dismissed them both before turning to his new partner and announcing to him personally, "What is wrong with you? Are you trying to disgrace the new commissioner you moron?" I am reminded of that movie of which I have written before as it has become clear to me that this sudden discovery of The Swine Flu in Mexico City has been cautiously but inevitably downgraded to a non-event which, after careful consideration, the Mexican National Secretary of Health has concluded started in the United States anyway and is of no consequence in the first place so we can all fly from Mexico to any place our hearts desire without fear of contracting any disease and all persons planning vacations in beach resorts all over Mexico and trips to beautiful Mexico City may now go forward with their previous plans and I am sure that some low-level functionary has been fired for this inexcusable indiscretion and soon we can lay all this hoopla to rest and move on with the business of normal international human interraction. Well, thank God for that.
