Swine flu - Oaxaca

First reports indicated Oaxaca City as having swine flu cases, yet there isn't a tapaboca available in any pharmacy and, I've been told, not all health care workers/students have any either. A few people on the streets are wearing them and some food servers and store clerks. I didn't see any city bus passengers with mouth masks. I dont think schools are closed, or maybe just the private schools are open. Not sure.

Face masks aren't rocket science and shouldn't be in short supply like flu vaccine. Maybe the warehouses in DF are not sending any to Oaxaca? Makes sense, I guess, if DF is the epicenter.

I wash my hands frequently and don't hug and kiss. That's about all I know to do at this stage. Has anyone flown into US with more detailed report, i.e. are surgical masks being handed out in DF ?

There are enough differences of opinion on this topic and I am certainly not trying to start a flame war about how to treat whatever it is we are so concerned about. I just present this as it was presented just now on CNN.

Although the surgical masks make us think that we are doing something positive, the head of the CDC just announced "Don't wear masks. Wash your hands." Tiny atoms and molecules of virus are not going to be stopped--going in or coming out--by a surgical mask.

36,000 people die every year in the U.S. alone from the flu--regular old normal flu.

This is not the end of the world. It is the A*PORK*alypsis!!

"Y'all be careful out there." "Concern--not alarm."

Thanks Jim for info re masks. I agree 100%, concern, care bit not alarm. There are enough people alarmed and fearful. I don't need to be.

Here is an article that mentions the 36,000 amount. I have also heard it on Fox several times.

Here are couple of other informational anti-hysteria links:
