Safety in Guerrero?

My wife and I enjoyed three or four uneventful visits to Ixtapa in the 90s, flying into Zihuat and spending the entire time in resorts. I will be visiting Mexico for three weeks this January, and would like to travel by delujo from Morelia to Zihuat. My question: given the recent grisly murders in Chilpancingo, is it safe to make this trip by bus or should I just enjoy my normal stay in Michoacan, Guanajuato, and Queretaro? Thanks for your help. Rock: My wife and I also enjoy Zihuatanejo and traveled there by car from Morelia last year. The road is great, not busy, and at least in daytime not dangerous. we experienced no sense of danger in Zee or Ixtapa. We are leaving for Zee again on Saturday by Autobus, first class, from Zamora, different route same destination and don't have any expectations that the druglords will target us. Relax and enjoy your trip.
