Today about noon it must be right at 25C and not a cloud in a crystal sky. We pay our first visit to the incredible indigenious market in San Cristobal since arriving from Lake Chapala and I am blown away at the frenetic atmosphere and fresh produce picked from mountainside fincas just this morning. We bring home sweet young radishes and tender young turnip greens and roots, fresh aromatic basil and cilantro and parsley and you name it. No need to buy more than what you need today because tomorrow brings more freshly picked produce and fabulous fruit and it is only two blocks to this place from our home, OK, so I am gushing. You will as well if you come here.

When we return home our alarm company representative is there to meet with us and discuss some modifications we wish to make to our home alarm system. He tells us that criminal activities such as home burglaries and street assaults have almost ceased altogether in our barrio and moved on to other neighborhhoods as a result of an active and serious neighborhood vigilance program. Our neighbors in San Cristobal are quite serious about this and everyone on the street possesses noise making devices that constitute a call to arms. Criminals quickly learned that to commit illegal acts in this neighborhood was a risky business as folks around here will not hesitate to physically take on thugs invading the area. Say what you will about street justice. It works; especially when local law enforcement is ineffectual. We feel much more secure in our home here than we do at Lakeside.

We all know there are snakes about in paradise.
